obliscence and forgetting

February 15, 2005 on 3:02 pm | In Happenings | No Comments

though now we have seen that the traces of our past have collected like shed skin particles in our mote-palpitant cones of confabulation — the sheets of memory that haunt and delude, from which we build an evolving identity — zones of remembrance, riddled with a crippling nostalgia — and as a matter of due course the telescopic deja vu as our plane of experience folds upon itself — not to be forgetting the premonitive (inverse experiential plane) anticipation of the memories-to-come — and all the illusory and out-of-field fictions that constitute our waking lives — and the labyrinthine impressions of our dreams –
now, I say, that we have cast aside the veil to reveal the undifferentiated plane like a projected film with no screen — an opportunity to focus our becomings in an intricate moment of absolute forgetting, captured as a vague after-print in recorded media but never recreated in the total sensorium, presents itself in the tensile present, pro tempore –

Wednesday, February 16 (dual non-synchronous occurrences, acting-at-a-distance spookily):
Temple Ball (De La Luz), Carrboro, 9:30: Prima Facie Evil opening for Eugene Chadbourne and Han Bennink.

You of course know who Eugene Chadbourne and Han Bennink are. But to refresh our fickle, disloyal and confabulated memories: http://eugenechadbourne.com/; http://www.ejn.it/mus/bennink.htm.

Slacker balladeers Mowing Lawns on another outing. Mike Meyerson is the singer/songsmith, Todd Emmert is his evil pipe-chewing doppelganger, Mike Glass on drums, Chris on bass, Slowfeet on alto sax and a little guitar.

undifferentiated and inchoate sensory inundation

Bickett Gallery, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Bic-kett-Gal-ler-y: the expressive muscles of the mouth commence with a voiced bilabial plosive, proceed to a dual glottal excursion in alternation with two taps of the tongue, one palatal the other labiodental, only to rest in a suggestively ambiguous alveolar approximant. Bick. Et. Gal. Ery.

But before we delve into the murky prophecy of what may or may not constitute a happening at a given Wednesday evening (around 10 pm) at the aforementioned object of untoward affection, there are other matters which may or may not interest those who have made the commitment to read thus far:

Friday, Feb 11, Jayzz in Raleigh, 10 pm, probably around 5 bucks: Odd International
That’s the 70’s-Miles-esque foolishness whose membership includes Parrish Anderson on keys and alto sax, Christopher Thurston on basses, Mike Isenberg on drums, DJ Krazerock on vinyl and samples, Q Jones on congas and Crowmeat Bob on guitar, alto sax and bass clarinet.

Wednesday, Feb 16, Temple Ball (De La Luz) in Chapel Hill, not sure of time and $ yet: Prima Facie Evil opening for Eugene Chadbourne and Han Bennink.
The debut of a rehearsed jazz-type quartet, PFE: John Hubbard on tenor sax, Phil Martelli on electric bass, Mike Isenberg on drums, Crowmeat Bob on guitar, alto sax and bass clarinet.
More on Chadbourne: http://eugenechadbourne.com/
More on Bennink: http://www.ejn.it/mus/bennink.htm

Thursday, Feb 17, Martin St. Music Hall in Raleigh: Kolyma with Chadbourne/Bennink and Sunrise Radio
Kolyma will rock. Sunrise Radio will bend. Chadbourne/Bennink will astound.

And, as promised, the prophesied Midweek Mayhem:

February 9: Razor Wire Safety Net + Andrew Austin & Clare Quilty
Both guests on guitars. We will devour your soul. RWSN is Brian Donohoe on drums, Christopher Thurston on basses and Crawmote Bob on horns and guitar.

Feb 23: Razor Wire Safety Net + undetermined guests

March 2: Cruelbient
With DJ.exe (aka Rattmouth, aka Matt Routh), Esotic (aka Dave Zahn) and Slowfoot Bob (aka The Ventriloquizer DL) —- making freaky soundscrapes for your spine.

So then. Comb watt may.

doing what is necessary

February 1, 2005 on 3:19 pm | In Happenings | No Comments

Dearest Friend of the Company:
There will be a series of mandatory Social Darwinist gatherings in the near future, in order to cement Our working relationships with the glue of extra-corporate (-corporeal) interface. The Company must be involved in every aspect of Our lives, from the mundanities of Our temporal work-flow economy to Our deepest, as-yet-unrevealed privacies. Nothing will evade the capture of Our intelligence apparatus. This labor-intensive psychological investigation is desirable so that We all may profit from increased productivity.

Approaching this weekend:

Friday, Feb 4, Kings Barcade, Raleigh ($5 members/$6 guests/free with donation of a clean, warm blanket): Odd International
This is a performance intended to raise capital for the construction of Free Work Camps for the destitute. In order to philanthropically provide for these needy people we will be supporting, in cooperation with the Nu World Lend-a-Hand Bank and the Odd International Monadary Fund, the construction of factories in zones unsubject to arbitrary state over-regulation that hinders productivity and eats away like vermin at the righteous fiber of global capitalism. Come support this worthy cause, in the name of Social Darwinism, as set forth in the fine print and in the margins of The Social Contract.
Odd is: Christopher Thurston - basses; Parrish Anderson - alto sax, keys; Mike Isenberg - drums; DJ Krazerock - waxscratch, sampler; Crowmeat Bob - guitar, alto sax, etc.
Also: DJ’s, visuals by Esotic, food by Steph (the chef) Hensley, art by Kenbro Braak.

Saturday, Feb 5, Bickett Gallery: Horace’s Ice Meltuhs opening for Ah-Leu-Chatistas (possibly like 5 bucks, maybe less)
Horace’s are an improvised concoction consisting of Mike Dillon (Spader) on guit and prob’ly vox, Neil Vendrick on sample re-codifying, perhaps Mick (from Another Tombstone Dream) on guitar, perhaps Terry Ford on I think drums, perhaps Drew Robertson (Phon) on guitar, likely Crawmote Bob on horns and guitar.
The ‘Chatistas don’t much resemble their namesake number — more like instrumental proggy math metal with hinky noise breaks. From Asheville.

And on the regulated Wednesday Night Company Prayer Meeting (Bickett Gallery, every Wednesday, 10 pm or so, Free Zone — illegal for musicians to strike):

February 2: The Blue Rose Case
Members of the Retroactive Dynamics Social Insecurity team may be present as secret spectators in order to note crowd behavior patterns. For Our own good. Behave normally.
The BR Case is Carrie Shull (of Eugene Chadbourne’s Insect & Western Trio, Micro East Collective, Pulsoptional) on oboe and english horn, Chris Eubank (of SharkQuest, Defenestrator, Ugly Americans, Spatula, Micro East, Blue Chair) on cello and double bass, Dan Hall (of Defenestrator, Countdown Quartet, Django Haskins) on drums, Slowfeet Bob on horns and guitar.

February 9: Razor Wire Safety Net + Andrew Austin & Clare Quilty
Both guests on guitar, tho’ Quilty (Baaamfph!, Appetite for Destruction) is liable to bring other noise-making devices.
RWSN: Brian Donohoe on drums, Christopher Thurston on basses.

Feb 16: curated by Drew Robertson (Crowmeat will be in the field)

Feb 23: Razor Wire Safety Net + Dustin Dorsey & Drew Robertson
Both guests (the guys from Phon) again on guitfiddle.

You know who you are.

So do We.
