Waxworks

Having spent our weanful years filling our belly with royal jelly, we will set forth from the hive as a queen, making a beeline for the sun. The punters will pursue and one will be victorious in his gruesome copulatory demise. Then we will return, endowed with numerous offspring, while the rest of the males are slaughtered at our whim. This Wednesday.

Wednesday, March 15, Kings Barcade, Raleigh, 10:30 pm: The Blue Rose Case.
We’ll be doing some original material plus maybe if you’re nice some Nino Rota and Max Roach and Sun Ra.
Us being Chris Eubank on cello/bass, Carrie Shull on oboe/english horn, Dan Hall on drums, and meselves on guitar, alto sax, bass clarinet.

Friday, March 17, Nightlight, Chapel Hill, 10 pm: Mowing Lawns with Jackie O Motherfucker and Clang Quartet.
The bees buzzing in the lattice of coincidence.
You of course know the addictive qualities of a Clang Quartet performance.
Jackie O Mo Fo ought to delight and waylay fears.
I will be joining the Mowing Lawns, who are currently: Mike Meyerson, songsmith; Todd Emmert, whizkid guitarist; Clarque Blomquist, drums; meself, alto sax. Songs with noises. Sorta VU meets AA.

Till we dance and cross-pollinate again.

Making History

March 3, 2006 on 9:58 am | In Happenings | No Comments

Here at Events Spectacular we specialize in providing you with crystallized events that you’ll be able to look back on and say, “Something really happened.” We remove all the uncertainty of historical interpretation and leave you secure in the knowledge of what exactly has happened and precisely why it occurred. From watershed moments to quotidian repetitions, everything will have its place in the strict linear cause-and-effect world we all crave.
May ‘68? A valiant attempt at a failed revolution.
The cause of the Great War? That’s easy: the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.
Your indigestion? That brunch you ate at IHOP, in chemical reaction with the PBR that’s still in your system.

Look for the following planned events in your neighborhood over the next few work weeks, with conveniently circumscribed locations for easy categorization:

Friday, March 3, Nightlight, Chapel Hill, 9 pm: Recess.
I know we said 8 pm before, but the evening has been re-temporalized due to other necessary happenings, also at specific times and locations.
Crowmeat Bob will preform a solo set, along with stalwart individuals Mike Dillon (Spader) and Robert Biggers (The Nein, Audubon Park, Cold Sides, White Octave). And I believe Biggsy will be joined by compatriot Chris Eubank for his set. And a possible appearance by Carrie Shull on oboe in some fashion or other. Maybe she’ll play “Axl”.

Wednesday, March 15, Kings: Health Jazz with The Blue Rose Case.
I can’t tell you about the blue rose. Except that it involves Carrie Shull on oboe and english horn and Chris Eubank on cello and bass (both of whom you might remember from the March 3rd Recess, coincidentally enough), and Dan Hall (The Old Ceremony, Countdown Quartet) on drums.

Friday, March 17, Nightlight: Mowing Lawns with Clang Quartet and Jackie-O Motherfucker.

Now you know where to be.
