floutdown
October 31, 2006 on 6:57 am | In Happenings | No CommentsGet on up to the Hallow’s Eve roustdown at the 506. Not sure what ‘roustdown’ means. But it’ll probably be pretty good, in a Jim’s Journal kind of way. Well, no…more active than that.
Tuesday, Oct 31, Local 506, Chapel Hill, Dexter Romweber and the New Romans with Garmonbozia and Evil Wiener.
Garmonbozia (pain and suffering) is a Twin Peaks cover band. I hope they do Sycamore Trees.
I bet Evil Wiener will do Creep in the Cellar and Human Cannonball. I reckon doing those ‘Surfers covers is a Hallowe’en tradition.
I’ll be playing horns in the New Romans. Dex on guitar and vokes, Kevin Dixon on guitar, Stu Cole on bass, Dave Schmitt on drums, Mike Walters on keys.
Thanks,
Robert

Risk Assessment
October 17, 2006 on 1:02 pm | In Happenings | No CommentsDearest Comrades,
As a way to show heartfelt gratitude for all you’ve done for the organization, we’ve arranged for an employee appreciation course to be undertaken at Training Ground 8, near the West Biological Testing Facility. This is mandatory and will require a special waiver, to be filled out when arriving at one of the following dates and times:
Wednesday, October 18, Kings Barcade, 10:30 pm, donation: Death Jazz with Craig Hilton and Crowmeat Bob.
I’ll be playing horns and Quilty will be molesting the sound through electro-processing.
Thursday, October 19, Chaz’s Bull City Records, Durham, 7:00 pm, $10/day pass or $20/festival pass: Kolyma with Cantwell, Gomez and Jordan, Jew(s) and Catholic(s), Bombadil.
Part of Durham’s Troika Muzack Festival. http://www.troikamusicfestival.org/
There’s plenty of other stuff from Wednesday to Saturday that will be almost as worth your while as Thursday.
Reckon the order of bands is the reverse of what you see listed above.
See you there.

ignoble defeat
October 12, 2006 on 5:41 am | In Happenings | No CommentsRecognition presumes knowledge — be it knowledge of surface or surfeit of knowledge, over the wire or under the wear — reflecting itself in the leak through which Cocteau’s Orpheus splooshed, imbibing the dreary damons and engels on the sunder side of time.
Keep your rears on; we’ll be gritting along longtime combing in the interrogation greenroom of the afterstrife. We’ll know more than we ever knew we would.
Whatness:
Tuesday, October 10, Nightlight, Chapel Hill, 10 pm, 5 bucks: The Kirks with Dynamite Club and Michael Thomas Jackson.
It’ll be a throwdown.

Wednesday, Oct 11, Duke Coffeehouse, Durham, 9:30 pm, 5 clams: Hem of His Garment with Mouthus and Yellow Swans.
Big drone and big noise.

Thursday, Oct 12, Kings Barcade, Raleigh, 10:30 pm: Kolyma with Dirty Little Heaters.
Good old-fashioned rock and roll.
Another Tombstone Dream was supposed to play, too, but Neil moved to Brooklyn.
Narcissus, narc thyself.

ps. Thanks to all of the feeble suckers who have diverted their hard-earned dough into my Cultural Juggernaut. I am now rich beyond imagining.
No, but really, I’m sorry if I pissed anyone off with my last stupid little promo thing. Jeez. Fuckin’ lighten up. Fuck.
I’m as much of a clueless mass as the next dude. Though I do prefer the nomenclature “clue-free”.
Blue Drag
October 10, 2006 on 10:11 am | In Happenings | No CommentsOkay, so from now on I’m just going to use the tone of a “regular guy” asking his “friends” to come to musical outings when I write these promo posts. I figure the “regular guy” posture will attract those who were put off by the “literary” or “bureaucratic” or “paranoid” or “stupid” postures of previous electronic announcements. This way y’all won’t feel so daunted or alienated or annoyed.
So come on by and check out these shows. I think they’ll be pretty good. You clueless fucking masses.
Friday, Oct 6, Museum of Unnatural Sciences, Jones St, Raleigh, 6 pm: The Blue Rose Unit.
We’ll be playing as part of the first Friday deal. It’s a extry-special night though because Skip Elsheimer, also known as A/V Geeks, will be celebrating his birthday with a pseudo-science fair. Oughta be a hoot and a holler. We’ll play in the lobby until 7, when Skip’ll show some flicks from his enviable collection featuring his name in the title. Then we’ll play again after that until 8:30, when they’ll be showing Alien.
Featuring Chris Eubank on cello, Carrie Shull on oboe and english horn, Todd Hershberger on bassoon, and me on horns and guitar.

And two shows with The Kirks.
Sunday, Oct 8, The Cave, 10 pm or so.
Tuesday, Oct 10, Nightlight, with Dynamite Club and Michael Thomas Jackson, 10 pm.
The Kirks’d be me on guitar and horns, Randy Pelosi on guitar, tenor sax and chapman stick, Anthony Lener on electric bass, and Nathan Logan on drums.

And then on Wednesday the 11th I’ll prob’ly bring the old bari sax to play with the drone orchestra Hem of His Garment on Wednesday at the Duke Coffehouse with Mouthus and Yellow Swans.
Cool. Thanks. See y’all later.
