Now that the general processes of evolution have reached the stage in which machines can safely inherit their duties as terrestrial wardens from a world-weary and apathetic Humankind, let us take a moment to reflect before memory becomes obsolete.

Thursday, March 29, 6-8 pm EST, WXDU: On the Corner.
Today we’ll be spinning the music of Otomo Yoshihide. Guitarist, turntablist, composer, renaissance guy.
wxdu.org - streaming broadcast
or 88.7 on your FM dial in the Durham/Chapel Hill/Hillsborough area.

Friday, March 30, Nightlight, Chapel Hill: Nation, Family, and God with George Steeltoe Ensemble and Esperanto Bat.
Not sure exactly what order we’ll be going in. George S is headlining. They consist of improvising folks from all over:
Michael Barker (Sharks With Wings)-Philly
Ed Bear (Talibam, Artificial Inseminary School, Volcanos)-NY
Jay Dunbar (Blastocyst)-VA
Lathan Hardy (Dosdedos)-NY
Michael Thomas Jackson (Spool Ensemble)-NC
Brian Osborne (Paper Legs)-Brooklyn

Nation, Family, and God is me on horns and Jenks Miller (In the Year of the Pig, Un Deux Trois, Hem of His Garment) on drums.

Esperanto Bat features Jane Allen Wilson on vocals, Ethan Causet and Chuck Johnson on electro-sounds, John Randall Pelosi on mostly cello I think, not sure who else might be playing. I think Nathan Logan plays drums with them regularly.

Saturday, March 31, Farrell St, Raleigh: Crowmeat Bob with Clang Quartet, Jason Crumer, and Boyzone.
House show. I’ll be doing a solo set with close-miked horn sounds. Not sure what time or order.
All-around noise happening.
E-mail me back for directions.

Sunday, April 1, 5 pm, WXDU: Savage Knights.
We’ll be playing live on Ross Grady’s local music radio show. wxdu.org; 88.7 FM
That’s Peter Lamb and Jon Hubbard on tenor saxes and flute, Chris Eubank on bass guitar, Mike Isenberg on drums, me on guitar and saxes.

Sunday, April 1, 9-10 pm, WXDU: Mystery Hour.
Mystery.

Hertz, don’t it?

Be sure’n batter-fry your eardrums ere you pilgrimate yourselves to the following uncritical mass gatherings, be they over the invisible, extraproximal waves of the Hertzian spectrum or be they flesh-and-blood manifestations of said spectrum in relatively co-extensive spatial coordinates, replete with the stink of sweat and blood and halitosis and what-have-you — all of us bein’ spectres of the odiferous spectrum whether we wish ourselves thusly or no.

Thursday, March 15, 6-8 pm, WXDU: On the Corner.
Another bi-weekly installment of jazz music, that greatest of American art forms save advertising.
I alternate Thursdays with my doppelganger, Andy Riddle.
wxdu.org for streaming info-cast.

Friday, March 16, Local 506, 10 pm, free: The Nein, Sorry About Dresden, Maple Stave.
I think we’ll be sounding off in betwixt the other bands.

Thursday, March 29, 6-8 pm, WXDU: On the Corner.
This show will be entirely dedicated to the music of Otomo Yoshihide. Mostly his jazz stuff like the phenomenal New Jazz Quintet, but you know, some Ground-Zero, maybe some onkyo, some turntable duets. Stuff like that. Again, I’ve got way more stuff I’d like to play than I can fit in a lousy two hours.

Voices in the Air

March 9, 2007 on 2:02 pm | In Happenings | No Comments

I reckon I’ll be filling in for the two-hour block on WXDU (wxdu.org), Saturday the 10th: 8-10 pm EST. The first hour is Border Radio, the country music show, and the second is Soul City, wherein I’ll be emphasizing the funk.
Also check out my jazz show next Thursday, 6-8 pm. If you’re of a mind to. No special theme this time, just darn good music.
