sparkle motion

September 21, 2007 on 12:04 pm | In Happenings | No Comments

Be sure and transmigrate your damn self out to these here events, wherever they or you may be.

Saturday, September 22, Downtown Events Center, Raleigh: Odd International, Left Outlet.
Part of the Spark Con raleigh thing (sparkcon.com). You might have seen Crowmeat Bob listed as a separate entity, and I may very well have some short set of my own, but primarily I’ll be playing with Odd. Which features Christopher Thurston on basses, DJ Krazerock on turntables/samples, Parrish Anderson on keys/alto sax, Eric Broadway on drums, Jubal Creech on percussion, B-Nice (Pro-L) on vox, and myself on saxes and guitar.
Odd’s supposed to play at 11:30. Not sure about anything else.
There’s some samples of Odd on the “Psych Warfare Transmissions” tab of the Retroactive Dynamics website.

Friday, September 28, Nightlight, 10 pm, 5 bucks: Recess.
We’ll be doing another Company-style thing where we mix & match folks in improvised settings. Performing will be Chris Eubank on cello, David Morris on tuba, Christopher Thurston on double bass, Shannon Morrow and Jenks Miller on drums, Craig Hilton on laptop and/or guitar, Steve Burnett on electronics, myself on reeds/guitar and possibly others.
I believe Walt Davis might be kickin’ around, so stop in and say hi to him.

And tune in to Polyphonic Perversity, every Saturday from 6 to 8 pm. And On The Corner, every other Thursday, same time.

blameworthy

September 9, 2007 on 7:48 am | In Happenings | No Comments

Well now. Looks like we got ourselves in a mighty fine fix here. But let’s not start spuriously casting blame about until we’re on dry land again. I’m sure blame will be assessed properly in the inevitable inquiry that the Company will effect. Then each can pay according to his misdeeds.
But right now we either work together or die together.

So catch a listen to WXYC 89.3 (wxyc.org) this evening from 8 to 9 pm (EST, Sunday the 9th) to catch a live pre-formance of Savage Knights on the legendary Backyard Barbecue program.
Could be a pip. Could be a pip.
myspace.com/savageknights — there’s some live videos there too.

And also Dexter Romweber and the New Romans will be buggin out at Bugfest again this year. So be sure and stop by to see the bee-bearded lady and snack on some scorpions.
That’s free and out-of-doors at the Museum of Unnatural Sciences on Jones St in Raleigh, 6:15 pm, Sept 15.

In other news, the Polyphonic Perversity show has moved to Saturdays 6-8 pm (EST) from its previous 12-2 Sunday spot. No more bombs-and-Jesus crowd on their way to brunch as devoted listeners. Now it’ll be the nightlife crowd getting psyched to go out and party by catchin a earful of Morton Feldman and his ilk. Rock on.

Vocoding

September 1, 2007 on 3:50 pm | In Happenings | No Comments

Spectators arpeggiated across couches, chairs and floors in living rooms everywhere impose their privileged gaze on the televised drama where history unfolds and refolds. And the history of the Fold tells its own metanarrative from a vantage that so-called perspective can’t approach.
But be that as it may and all things being unequivocal (bi-univocal at most), we’ll be hearing multiple voices this Sunday from 5-8 pm on WXDU.
That’s wxdu.org to all you spectators-at-a-remove where the static in the air sometimes makes it hard to hear.
That’s a three-hour Mystery Hour featuring songs about hearing voices, multiple identity, and paranoia.
Turn on, tune in and bug out.
And the usual Polyphonic Perversity will occur from noon-2 pm. We’ll be featuring Morton Feldman’s ‘Crippled Symmetry’ and some other stuff. So do whatever you need to do to prepare.
