Y’know, back in the early days of the so-called Enlightenment, as hard science began its sway over the minds of men, the New Science was seen as a complement and augmentation to belief in the Supreme Deity. In knowing the mechanics of His creation we would grow closer to Him.
But since the beginning of the great disillusionment with science, abetted by such inventions as the atom bomb and the pill, religious folk often see the failure of science in the face of the unknown and probably unknowable infinitude of the natural world as proof of God, and religion and science are more often seen as antithetical paradigms. There’s sort of a fair-weather attitude toward science that fuels a lot of the God people.
So keep believing what you will — there’s always a way to rationalize it.

Sunday, October 28, 9:30-11:00 pm, WXDU: Yearning for the Long Returning.
Good old-timey songs about longing for death. Mostly proto-bluegrass and country blues gospel type stuff. But a few other things thrown in.
It’s gonna be really good.
