character, friendship, and ethics
December 21, 2007 on 8:24 am | In Happenings | No CommentsAs the hypocritical moralists continue their litany of invectives…
Friday, December 21, Local 506: Dexter Romweber & Friends w/Jimmy & the Teasers, Sister Fanny, the Pneurotics, and Sea Cow.
Looks like it’ll be portions of the New Romans for this gig. Dress casual.
Sister Fanny are a good early-Stones cover band. If you’re going to see a fucking cover band, this is the one.
Saturday, December 22, Nightlight: Horseback w/Ghost to Falco and Secret Boyfriend.
Now’s your chance to see Horseback and Ghost to Falco if you didn’t make it to Bull City a week ago. Ghost to Falco was highly inventive and full of dread. And Horseback stepped up honorably.
And it looks like the New Romans will be rocking the Cat’s Cradle on January 4th (free show) and Elvisfest at the 506 on the 11th.
Thank you for your ethical behaviour.

the enemy in house culture
December 7, 2007 on 7:36 am | In Happenings | No CommentsFriends,
The greatest thing in this world is to have the fear of God in your heart. The next greatest thing is to have electricity in your home.
Which sort of amounts to the same thing.
Tonight, Friday, December 7, Nightlight, 10 pm: Savage Knights with Reuben Radding/Jacob Wick/Andrew Greenwald and Phon.
This oughta be a bang-up time.
Savage Nights have a new line-up. Now it’s Chris Eubank on bass/cello, Joey Chorley on bass/trumpet, Brian Donohoe on moog, and still Mike Isenberg on drums and myselves on guitar/saxes.
The Radding/Wick/Greenwald trio are accomplished improvisers from up New York way. Of the “reductionist” school, I believe.
Phon are Raleigh’s own sedimentary sound spectrum archaeologists.
Wednesday, December 12, Nightlight, 9:30: Crowmeat Bob with Soiled Mattress and the Springs.
Not sure what I’m doing yet, but it’ll be fuckin fantastic.
Soiled Mattress are also from up New York way…they do humourous and groovy jazz with a bit of a punk edge.
Friday, December 14, Bull City Records, Durham, 9:00: Horseback with Ghost to Falco.
I don’t know if anyone else is playing. It’s not on the Bull City’s freakin website.
Anyway, this line-up of Horseback I believe will include myself on saxes, Dave Cantwell on drums, Aaron Smithers on bass/french horn, and of course Jenks on guitar.
Ghost to Falco is sort of gleefully morose experimental indie psych-rock or something.
Sunday, December 16, WXDU 88.7 [wxdu.org], Durham, 9:30-11:00 pm: “The Spirit of the Hive”
We’ll be spinning songs about bees for the Mystery Show. Join us.
And I’m still doing the 6-8 pm Saturday spot (”Polyphonic Perversity”) and 6-8 pm every other Thursday (”On the Corner”).
