saving face
July 24, 2009 on 1:24 pm | In Happenings | No CommentsCan we preserve our faces as the eyes of god grow bigger in the widening gyre?
Saturday, July 25, 8 pm, house show, 106 Williams St, Carrboro: Crowmeat Bob and Josh Zaslow.
I believe we’ll be playing separate and improvising together. Me on horns, Josh on guitar.
Friday, July 31, Slim’s, Raleigh: Some Girls
Yep. A late-70’s style Stones cover band. I’ll be portraying whoever the guy is that replaced Bobby Keys.
Saturday, August 8, 6 pm, Durham Arts Guild, 120 Morris St, Durham: Sun Ra tribute.
Things’ll actually begin at 5:00 when a costume and noise procession will make its way from Central Park to the D.A.G.
Then these folks’ll play an improvised set:
York Wilson - pedal steel; Steve Burnett - theremin, Paul Dean - Casio, 8 voice, 8 octave, toy synth sax through a chinese bull horn; Ben Riseling - reeds; Bo Newsome - oboe; myself on reeds; and possibly Carrie Shull - oboe and Sara Bell - banjo.
And the Triangle Soundpainting Orchestra will top it all off at 7:00.
Thank you for listening.

I’ll be playing sax again with this Rolling Stones cover band. Sorta mid-period / late-70’s, y’know, when they were still kinda cool.
