August 5, 2009 on 12:37 pm | In Happenings | No CommentsIt’s after the end of the world. Don’t you know that yet?
But it’s still possible to praise Ra on whatever plane he yet dwells.
But first:
Tonight, Wednesday, August 5, 9:30, Local 506, Chapel Hill: Dexter Romweber and the New Romans with Pinche Gringo and Davilla 666
Looks like we’re playing second, around 10:30.
Pinche Gringo should be a bang-up time.
then:
Saturday, August 8: Sun Ra Spectacle
A preparation for the coming exhibit at the Durham Arts Council Building, “Pathways to Unknown Worlds: Sun Ra, El Saturn and Chicago’s Afro-Futurist Underground 1954-68.” — which begins on the 21st.
This Saturday begins at the Scrap Exchange at 548 Foster St in Durham:
3:00 - 4:30 $5 costume making party at Scrap Exchange.
4:30 - 6:00 Spectacle Procession — noise, rhythm, costumes through downtown Durham, culminating at the Durham Arts Council Building, 120 Morris St.
6:00 - 7:00 A group of improvisers give their treatment to some Sun Ra charts in the Arts Council Building. Including Bo Newsome and Carrie Shull on oboes, Steve Burnett on theremin, York Wilson on pedal steel guitar, Marika Wendleken on bowed saw, and Ben Riseling and m’self on reeds.
7:00 - 8:00 The Triangle Sound Painting Orchestra
Thursday, August 13, Ethan’s front yard, 904 W. Main St, Carrboro, 8:00 pm: Crowmeat Bob with Dust Busters and Gmish Klezmer Band
Ain’t sure what I’m exactly gonna do yet, but it’ll be good. I imagine I’m playing first.
Thursday, August 13, The Station, Carrboro, 9:00 pm: Dexter Romweber and the New Romans
That nifty train-car place near Weaver St Market. I hope we don’t start right at 9:00, ’cause I’ll be cutting it close.
Saturday, August 15, Museum of Unnatural Science, 11 W Jones St, Raleigh, 6:00: Savage Knights w/”Rocaterrania”
We’ll be playing some pre-screening music in the lobby, featuring a couple of numbers from the soundtrack of “Rocaterrania,” which will screen at 7:00.
It’s a documentary on a Raleigh artist who spends part of his time drawing birds for the museum and part of his time elaborating intricate details of a world of his own invention called “Rocaterrania.”
Monday, August 17, Mosaic Wine Lounge, 517 W Jones St, Raleigh, 8:30 - 11:00: Savage Knights
We’ll be playing two relaxed sets of music on the outdoor deck while DJ’s spin inside.
Thanks for your attention.
