Durham, NC – The Durham Art Guild (DAG) continues its community programming associated with the current exhibition, Pathways to Unknown Worlds: Sun Ra, El Saturn and Chicago’s Afro-Futurist Underground 1954-68, by presenting Sun Ra – A Jam Session on Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm in the PSI Theater in the Durham Arts Council Building located at 120 Morris Street in downtown. This event coincides with CenterFest weekend (September 18th and 19th) and is free and open to the public. All ages welcome. The event will be a combination of film, music, dance and spoken word inspired by the legendary composer and bandleader, Sun Ra.
Beginning at 5:30 pm, the documentary, “Sun Ra – A Joyful Noise” by Mug-Shot Productions, will be presented in the theater, followed by performances by musicians Freeman Ledbetter, Stanley Baird, John Brown, Carl Kenney, the band Savage Knights, Sun Ra Inspired poet, Val Jones and Bellan Dance Troupe.
This event is free and open to the public however there is limited seating. Participants are welcome to come or leave at any part of the event.
